Sketchbook Therapy

Time out with pen and sketchbook

Sketchbook Therapy is for beginners and experienced artists, everyone who would like to explore nature with pen in hand. The instructor is Judith Kunzlé, a specialist in sketching and drawing.

Therapy, because when we draw, we focus; it’s a form of meditation. Beginners will learn to look at the dazzling jungle of reality around us as a design of simple forms. Drawing is a ‘language’ and if we get a handle on its basic elements, we can learn to draw anything we like. Experienced artists will find that the stunning and unusual natural environment of Atiu requires new approaches to look and sketch, and invites artistic experiments. This workshop will assist in finding alternative ways to gather information directly from nature.

For a 13-day, comprehensive Art Expedition exploring three islands, see Art Expedition.

For beginners, Sketchbook Therapy is an intensive crash-course in drawing.

For experienced artists it is an inspiring workshop to acquire a fresh approach to drawing outside and to gather information directly from nature.

For groups of 4 to 10 persons, 4 days/3 nights on Atiu, Cook Islands This program is focused on outdoor sketching. Average fitness for short walks is required.

Island information:

Atiu is a gem, off the beaten track. It is a raised coral island with dramatic, ragged cliffs, secluded beaches and magical tropical rain-forest. We will stay at the Atiu Villas in comfortable bungalows made from local timber, surrounded by a botanical garden, visited by several species of endemic birds.
