click on images to enlarge Judith Kunzlé's Giclée or digital prints are not direct reproductions. In most cases, there is no original that looks like the print, instead, Judith's paintings and drawings are composed and treated in Photoshop after scanning. They are printed in Rarotonga which allows cooperation with the printer, testing and editing until they are just right. Judith's prints don't look like digital art, because she does not paint in Photoshop. Her works are spontaneous paintings and drawings on paper, with the computer as an extension of this process. For example, Judith discovered and painted the young Green Turtle in Manihiki, without the proper tools on hand, on thin sketching paper. The paper buckled and the paint was fading quickly, but with digital 'therapy', the record of this surprise meeting could be preserved. The triptych of dancers are based on 100+ spontaneous studies, of which the best were selected for the sequence. Gestures could be redone and gaps could be filled without compromising the freshness of the movements.
